The journey began decades ago. At just 13 years old, our founder, Edgard, put on his very first “Translator” badge. Traveling alongside his father, Edgar—a lifelong champion of genuine Nicaraguan hospitality—he started working with US medical missionary groups.

From navigating the rural mountains of Rio Blanco and San Rafael, to assisting in orphanages and soup kitchens deep within La Chureca—Managua’s historically most vulnerable open-air community—Edgard developed an unfiltered love for his country. It was in those challenging environments that he mastered cross-cultural communication, learning exactly what foreign visitors needed to feel safe, understood, and truly welcome in Nicaragua.

However, the “Legacy Standard” of flawless logistics didn’t just come from local knowledge—it was forged in the high-pressure corporate world.

At 18, Edgard entered the fiercely competitive BPO industry, mastering the intense art of high-stakes sales and complex international negotiations. Climbing the ranks to become a Certified Sales Trainer and Corporate Recruiter, his career rapidly evolved into elite international consulting.

By 2018, Edgard went from translating in local clinics to sitting in meetings advising C-level executives, bank managers, and global operations directors for multinational brands. He taught them how to implement elite operational frameworks and roll them out seamlessly across massive organizations.

He mastered the art of corporate precision through methodologies like Six Sigma—focused on eliminating defects, reducing variation, and delivering near-flawless execution.

The operational brain of Legacy soon found its perfect match in its heart: co-founder Sophia.

Sophia’s story mirrors Edgard’s in her lifelong passion for cross-cultural connection. A talented translator with studies in Tourism and Hotel Administration from UNICIT, she brought the refined science of true hospitality to the table.

Together, their idea of “time off” wasn’t resting at home; it was getting in their car and mapping out Nicaragua. From the crashing waves of Playa San Diego and La Boquita, to the cool breezes of El Crucero and Diriamba, the panoramic views of Catarina, and hidden trails like Cascada La Bujona—these routes were lived long before they became a business.

Sophia brought the emotional connection, the warmth, and the vital “heart” to their shared vision, ensuring every logistical detail was infused with genuine care.

A true legacy is never built alone; it requires an absolute foundation of loyalty. For Edgard, that foundation is his lifelong brotherhood with Norlan Rivas. Meeting at their local church when they were both just 13 years old, they have navigated every major chapter of life together—without a single argument (at least, none that they can remember!).

Today, the deep bond and shared values between our two families—Edgard and Sophia, alongside Norlan and his wife Iveth Tercero—serve as the moral and operational pillar of Legacy Tours Nicaragua. The unwavering trust that defines their marriages and decades-long friendship is the same loyalty and dedication we extend to every client who travels with us.

Married in 2015, Edgard and Sophia’s greatest adventure goes far beyond navigating Nicaragua’s volcanic landscapes—it is raising their three beautiful children: Aaron (12), Emma, and their newest addition, baby Ophelia (who proudly shares Edgard’s October birthday).

Building their own family profoundly shifted their perspective on travel. They understood firsthand the unique anxiety of traveling with little ones, the absolute necessity for uncompromising safety, and the unmatched value of a stress-free environment. Suddenly, the “rugged, unpredictable adventure” of traditional backpacking wasn’t appealing anymore; they wanted certainty.

This realization exposed a gap in Nicaragua’s booming tourism industry. Travelers and foreign families were coming to experience the raw beauty of the country, but they were often forced to compromise on comfort—dealing with unpredictable transportation, hot shared shuttles, and exhausting haggling.

Nicaragua didn’t need just another taxi service. It needed a premium, corporate-level destination management company with the warm heart of a local family.
